Our research

Violence against women and children affects everybody. It impacts on the health, wellbeing and safety of a significant proportion of Australians throughout all states and territories and places an enormous burden on the nation’s economy across family and community services, health and hospitals, income-support and criminal justice systems.

Australians’ attitudes to violence against women and gender equality. Findings from the 2017 National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey (NCAS)

The National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey, or NCAS, is a resource for anyone wanting to understand and prevent the serious and prevalent problem of violence against women.

This report documents findings from the NCAS and considers them in the context of other related research. It focuses on results for the community as a whole. It has been written for an audience interested in greater detail about the concepts measured in the survey, survey findings and implications for policy, program development and practice.

Methodology and Appendices referred to in this report can be found in a separate document: National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey (NCAS): Methodology report

It is one of a suite of resources being produced by ANROWS that draws on data from the 2017 NCAS. The suite includes a high level summary of this report, and is available on the NCAS microsite.
