Violence against women and children affects everybody. It impacts on the health, wellbeing and safety of a significant proportion of Australians throughout all states and territories and places an enormous burden on the nation’s economy across family and community services, health and hospitals, income-support and criminal justice systems.

This fact sheet presents the key findings from the report Migrant and refugee women in Australia: A study of sexual harassment in the workplace. It will be useful for Australian policymakers and practitioners who are part of the national response to creating safer workplaces, in particular for migrant and refugee women. 

The fact sheet outlines key details of migrant and refugee women’s experiences of sexual harassment in the workplace, including:

  • how many had experienced harassment
  • who was most frequently perpetrating the harassment
  • women’s perceptions of what was motivating the harassment
  • how women responded to incidents of harassment.
