SsshOUT! - Art exhibition about domestic violence

Community art exhibition addressing the still taboo subject of domestic violence and its effect on communities.

Gallery 47, Louee St Rylstone

Opening night Saturday 7 October 4-6pm
Exhibition open: 7–30 October 2017. Daily 9am – 4pm.

Sssh!  Do we dare talk about family and domestic violence? Yes!  Society should SHOUT! about the devastating consequences. At least one woman every week in Australia is killed by their partner.

Artists from the Rylstone/Mudgee district have created works to inspire discussion about this persistent problem.  A silent auction will run throughout the exhibition and the works will remain anonymous.  This is to highlight the fact that those who have died in this continuing tragedy are voiceless.  Can you name the woman murdered last week?  Who will it be this week?

On opening night, motivational speaker, lecturer and businessman Steve Semmens will speak persuasively as the White Ribbon Ambassador.  Genevieve Elliott, author of Screaming in Silence will also speak.  She is the mother of three brave and resilient children. Together, they have endured the horrors of abuse and the roller coaster of the legal system. Genevieve works voluntarily for Fighters Against Child Abuse Australia and has generously offered two books to give away.
Local winery Naked Lady Wines will be serving their excellent produce.

All profits will be donated to White Ribbon.  Come along and speak up to stop violence against women.
