ANROWS has been contracted by the Department of Social Services (Cth) to complete a short scoping project for improving data on the diverse experiences of family and domestic violence.

The project is being undertaken in relation to Action 25 of the Second Action Plan, of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children, which relates to improving data and information on the prevalence and the experiences of violence for diverse groups, including Indigenous women, women from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and women with disability.

As part of this project ANROWS will deliver a state of knowledge paper that reviews existing knowledge and gaps in data and information about the experiences of violence for these diverse groups. The paper will consider and present options on how to obtain better information to fill the key gaps – for example, examining timeframes and definitions, and resource use required to improve existing data (compared to conducting a survey to collect new data).

ANROWS will recommend ways to improve diversity data to inform the development of the National Plan‘s Third Action Plan. An stakeholder consultation process for the project commenced in early October 2015, and ongoing input and feedback is being sought through to the end of November. This project is being conducted by the Research Manager, Senior Research Officer (Diversity Data) and Research Officer (Diversity Data) and is scheduled for completion by April 2016.
