EXTERNALLY FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS
Preventing gendered tech-based abuse in the workplace
Background
Technology is an under-researched facet of workplace gendered abuse, despite technology playing an ever-increasing role in our workplaces. We have partnered with the eSafety Commissioner’s Office to develop new prevention strategies that target technology-based gendered abuse in the workplace.
Aim
Our project examines ways to positively intervene in technology features and workplace context to prevent tech-based gendered abuse in the workplace.
The project aims to develop an evidence-based, intersectional, systems-based approach to effective primary prevention of tech-based abuse of women. This project will develop, implement and evaluate interventions, which will be co-designed based on evidence and community input.
Methods
We are first conducting a literature review and a series of consultation workshops with academics and stakeholders to scope the breadth of tech-based workplace gendered abuse. Using these workshops, we are developing a framework that maps the workplace context and technology features that place technology as a reinforcing factor to workplace gendered abuse. Using this framework, we identify systems-based strategies to positively shift technology related attitudes and everyday use to prevent workplace gendered abuse. The final stage of the project will test prevention strategies through a co-designed intervention within an organisation, employing a random cluster design.
