CEO Update: Action Research Support Workshop 2

Thursday, 8th December 2016

I was really pleased to give a presentation on knowledge translation and exchange theory and practice at a 2-day workshop in Brisbane on 1 December. The workshop was run by the ANROWS Action Research Support Initiative team for some of the 40 projects funded by the Commonwealth government (DSS) under the Building Safer Communities for Women (BSCW) Program. This is the second of two Action Research Support Initiative workshops that I attended, the first being held in Perth on 14 November. These workshops provided opportunities for projects to discuss aspects of the Action Research process and to network with other BSCW projects and share challenges, experiences and solutions about building safe communities and approaches to domestic and family violence prevention work. ANROWS is funded by DSS to provide support on implementing the action research component, so that the projects’ learnings can be shared nationally.

It was also my pleasure this fortnight to address the Lane Cove Women’s Action and Information Group (WAIG) about ANROWS and the importance of evidence and knowledge translation and exchange to research on the prevention of violence against women. The WAIG invited me to participate after some of their members attended an address I gave on International Women’s Day on 8 March.
