Our research

Violence against women and children affects everybody. It impacts on the health, wellbeing and safety of a significant proportion of Australians throughout all states and territories and places an enormous burden on the nation’s economy across family and community services, health and hospitals, income-support and criminal justice systems.

New grants will help build the evidence base on perpetrator interventions

Monday, 1st February 2016

New funding is now available for research on interventions and responses to perpetrators of domestic, family and sexual violence. Today, Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety called for grant applications as part of its Perpetrator Interventions Research Stream.

Research projects under the program will support women’s safety and perpetrator accountability by building the evidence base on perpetrator interventions. Projects will examine the broad range of services and systems according to four research themes: 1) systems effectiveness; 2) effectiveness of interventions; 3) models to address diversity of perpetrators; and 4) interventions developed by, with and for Indigenous communities.

The grants round follows the release of ANROWS’s research paper onPerpetrator Interventions in Australia, which mapped the pathways, interventions and responses to perpetrators of domestic and family violence, and sexual assault.

The research priorities on which the grants are based were drawn from this research as well as extensive consultation with Australian Commonwealth, state and territory Governments, service providers and other key thought leaders.  They reflect the broad range of programs, Government agencies, service providers and service systems that interact with perpetrators and play a role in improving the safety of women and children and holding perpetrators of domestic and family violence and sexual assault accountable.

The ANROWS Perpetrator Interventions Research Stream is funded by the Commonwealth Government. It is a priority within the Second Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022 and will support states and territories implement the National Outcome Standards for Perpetrator Interventions (NOSPI).

Applications for funding must be received by 5pm AEST 28 April 2016.  More information is available at http://anrows.org.au/research-program/grants/current-grants.
